License Management Overview

Machinechat JEDI uses a licensing system to manage the editions, features, and usage limits of your installation. Understanding JEDI's licensing ensures you're making the most of the software and operating within its intended boundaries.

Why Licensing?

  • Software Protection: Licensing helps protect Machinechat's intellectual property and development investment.
  • Tiered Features: Licensing unlocks the full capabilities of JEDI Lite and Pro editions, allowing you to scale as needed.
  • Focused Usage: Licenses are tied to specific machine installations, ensuring fair use and preventing unauthorized distribution.

Key Concepts

  • License Types:

    • Free Edition: Enables basic functionality with limitations (no data storage, 3 data sources/metrics). Does not expire.
    • Lite Trial: A 30-day trial of JEDI Lite's features.
    • Lite: Unlocks data storage, more data sources, and other features.
    • Pro: Activates multi-user support, advanced features, and higher data volume options.
  • License Activation:

    • Requires a one-time internet connection to Machinechat's license servers.
    • Generates an anonymous hardware signature to ensure the license is used on the intended machine.
    • Potential firewall or proxy considerations (see below).
  • Upgrades: You can smoothly upgrade from Free to Lite/Pro or from Lite to Pro.

  • Multi-Feature Licenses: JEDI supports adding licenses for various upgrades (edition, users, devices, etc.)
